Closely related to Puerto Rican Pasteles, Venezuelan Hallacas and the Mexican Tamales, Trinidadian Pastelles are the perfect dish for connoisseurs of luxury cuisine!
Traditionally served at Christmas they also make a wonderful entrée or a starter.
Made with a seasoned cornmeal dough balls which are flattened then filled with an aromatic mix of juicy minced meat or fish, fragrant olives and capers and sweet raisins and wrapped in banana leaf and foil before being steamed to perfection.
Pastelles are as mouth watering as they are nostalgic. It’s a labour of love that celebrates tradition while tantalising taste buds.
Ingredients: Cornmeal, Tantie Green Seasoning Marinade, Raisins, Capers, Olives, Olive Oil, Butter, Achiote/Roucou. (Variations: Lamb, Beef, Fish, Chicken and Soya)

Once again, amazing pastelles from Tantie Lorraine. The flavour is rich and the cornmeal is lovely and smooth. This is my third year ordering and it has made Christmas away from home a little less gloomy.

Tantie Lorraine's pastelles were more than a dream come true. Their taste far exceeded my expectations. They were well packaged; they freeze well and can be reheated to perfection whilst still maintaining their form. Ultimately, they have given me some much needed comfort, especially upon hearing that my suddenly passed away on Christmas night in Trinidad. Beef & Fish flavours. Excellent. Taste just like the ones in T&T. And beautifully made. I’ve tried to make pastelles in the past and I know just how much work goes into them - these were perfectly done - filling and casing balanced, no cracks in the masa harina casing. Mum WhatsApp’d the photos to all her Trini friends. I think you might get some more orders! Thank you!
Fantastic pastelles..saved them for Christmas with piccalilli...delicious and tasted just like I remembered. We got the slightly amended recipe which was closer to how we had ours and Lorraine was really accommodating! We got beef and lamb ones and some soya ones for my vegetarian daugh terms, they were all great!
