One Pot Cooking - Trinidadian Pelau
There is a calypso with the lyrics ‘yuh know Trinis like to party, Trinis love to lime’. Well that saying is true. We can party any and everywhere; by the beach, in the park, at the cricket, at the football but most definitely at Carnival. Wherever it is someone will always bring pelau.
Pelau is the closest thing to the national dish of Trinidad and Tobago. Its a must have at a lime. Pelau is basically your protein - chicken, beef, seafood with rice & peas cooked in creamy coconut milk.
In this class you will learn to make the following meal;
- Main: Chicken Pelau
- Sides: Green Banana Salad
- Sides: Fried Plantain
You will also learn;
- How to season and marinate the Trini way
- How to ‘brown’ sugar to colour meat
- How to choose and prepare green bananas
- How to choose and prepare plantain
At the end of the session you will recipes and the skill to recreate them at home.
The class is held over Zoom. You will be sent ingredients and a list of equipment required a week before the class. You will then be sent the link to the zoom session 2 days before the event.
